Hungarian sculptor Janos Horvai created this monument to Lajos Kossuth, the father of Hungarian democracy. The monument was funded by American Citizens of Magyar origin and constructed in 1928. Two years later the monument had to be dismantled due to poor fabrication causing this second cast to be placed. Horvai is remembered for having created another more grandiose monument in honor of Kossuth also by the same name in Budapest where Kossuth was laid to rest.
