Augustus Saint-Gaudens. "Sherman Monument"
Historic sculptor Augustus Saint-Gaudens created this monument to General William Tecumseh Sherman briefly before his own death. This monument was originally intended to be located in Riverside by the same are as Grant's Tomb but after the Sherman family objected it was placed in Grand Army Plaza. The figure of peace present in other works of Saint-Gaudens is based on his mistress. The sculpture is gold leaf coated but it is in much need of conservation at the moment.

The Gilder's Studio from Maryland just finished re-gilding and tinting this sculpture.
