Alexandros of Antioch. "Venus de Milo"
Luke Dhanjal from Bangor, Northern Ireland sent us his sculpture contribution:
An artist from the Hellenistic period named Alexandros of Antioch is credited as being the sculptor of the world renowned Venus de Milo and is perhaps the most famous sculpture to come out of the Ancient Greek period. As everyone knows, the sculpture is permanently exhibited at the Louvre in Paris. Originally it was thought that Praxiteles was the original sculptor of this piece but a missing plinth revealed the true identity of the artist. This sculpture has inspired many artist in their work such as Henry Moore's Standing Figure: Knife Edge and most famously Jim Dine's Looking Toward The Avenue.
