Mac Adams. "New York Korean War Veterans Memorial"

Welsh born artist Mac Adams created this memorial that is permanently installed in Battery Park. This memorial is one of the first ones to commemorate the Korean War. Through the silhouette of the Universal Soldier one can see the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island. At the same time the sculpture serves as sundial, since every July 27 at ten in the morning, when hostilities stopped in Korea, the sun shines though the head of the soldier illuminating the plaque. The sculpture also has flags representing the countries that participated as well as the number of those lost, missing and who served on the circle floor of the sculpture.
