John Quincy Adams Ward. "The Pilgrim"

Historic sculptor John Quincy Adams Ward was commissioned to create this statue of a pilgrim to commemorate the landing of the pilgrim fathers on Plymouth Rock. The bronze statue is set atop a pedestal created by prominent American architect Richard Morris Hunt, who created pedestals for many mansions in Manhattan as well as the Statue of Liberty. The sculptor of this piece is best known for his life size George Washington statue in Wall Street. This sculpture is permanently stationed in Pilgrim Hill inside of Central Park's Great Lawn.
