Adolph Alexander Weinman. "William Jay Gaynor Monument"


German-born sculptor Adolph Alexander Weinman was commissioned by the Gaynor Memorial Committee to create this sculpture and bust of Mayor of NYC William Gaynor that was dedicated in 1926. The relief behind the bust displays law and strength on one side and knowledge and ease on the other. The back displays biographical information of Gaynor as well as a quote representing his pro-reform style. The sculptor Weinman is well known for his ornamentation of the Prisoners Martyrs Monument and other historical sculptures in Brooklyn and Manhattan.

Bryan Hunt. "Coenties Ship"


American sculptor Bryan Hunt created this sculpture that stands in the middle of Coenties Slip Park. The sculpture stands at 20 ft on a circular dome of cast glass and was placed permanently here thanks to the Percent for Arts program. Recently Bryan Hunt had an exhibition of his waves sculptures on display on the Park Avenue Malls. More info: Bryan Hunt's website

Matthew Jensen. "Nowhere In Manhattan"


Artist Matthew Jensen with the help of students in the senior arts photography class at the High School of Art and Design selected these photographs that are on display at a construction site in  Nowhere In Manhattan is a project that is displayed throughout different areas in the city and depict natural landscapes that were taken believe it or not in Manhattan. Irving Marantz. "Triad"


American sculptor Irving Marantz created this sculpture installed outside of 475 Park Avenue. The sculpture is  a bronze reworking of a painting by Pablo Picasso titled Three Musicians. The sculpture has been permanently installed on this small plaza since 1969.

Claire Johnson. "Walks Of Life"


Artist Claire Johnson created this piece as part of the Downtown Alliance's Re:Construction art project in which they are beautifying construction and public areas. Basically certain areas in Downtown Manhattan are going through construction or are abandoned and instead of seeing wooden panels with Do Not Post Signs Here written on them, several artists have created these plastic art works that will cover these construction projects while providing a better look to the city.

James Angus. "Basketball Dropped from 35,000 Feet at Moment of Impact"


Artist James Angus created this sculpture which is as the title states of a basketball that has been dropped at  35,000 feet. The sculpture is made completely of bronze and shows a Spalding brand basketball. It is a sculpture to be easily missed since it stands by itself in MetroTech Center.  Not much information on the sculpture can be found.

George Adamy. "Month of June"


Artist George Adamy created this sculpture consisting of five moveable discs. The discs are each 5 ft. 1 in. The discs are made out of a large orange-yellow plexiglass. The sculpture stands outside the plaza on 77 Water Street.

Leonard Ursachi. "Well"


Romanian-born American artist Leonard Ursachi created this sculpture this sculpture composed of three parts. They are constructed out of recycled materials as can be especially seen in the blue well. The sculpture is temporarily installed in Cadman Plaza in Brooklyn near the Brooklyn Bridge. The sculpture will be on view from October 2011 until April 2012. Stella Shawzin. "The Athlete"


South African sculptor Stella Shawzin created this larger than life sculpture of man that is permanently installed in the sculpture garden of Fordham Law. The sculpture is one of many sculptures that are installed throughout the world. This particular Athlete sculpture can be seen from the streets of Lincoln Center welcoming people to the sculpture garden above Fordham University where many other sculptures are present. David Byrne. "The Wall Street"


Artist David Byrne created this very unusual sculpture which is a bicycle rack titled The Wall Street which stands in the north side of Wall Street. The sculpture is one of nine bike racks designed by the artist. It is part of a project set up by the New York City Department of Transportation and the former PaceWildenstein Gallery now Pace Gallery. More info: David Byrne's website

Lordy Rodriguez. "Water Movements"


Philippine contemporary artist Lordy Rodriguez who creates artworks using cartography and maps created this piece as part of the Downtown Alliance's Re:Construction art project in which they are beautifying construction and public areas. Canadian sculptor Erin Shirreff created this digital sign sculpture as part of the A Promise is a Cloud exhibition currently at MetroTech Commons Center. "Shrek The Halls" Ice Sculptures Sculpture Contribution


Sebastian Aguirre from Toluca, Mexico sent us his sculpture contribution:

Recently the Gaylord Texan Hotel in Dallas, Texas opened their doors with a new ice sculpture exhibition titled Shrek the Halls. Ice sculptors from Harbin, China traveled to Dallas in order to create these ice sculptures that were based on Dreamwork's Shrek characters. The exhibition was Christmas themed and ran until January 1, 2012.
